At risk of being over-earnest, we know that we have a role to play in our community. Here are some of our thoughts.
  • We remain a locals’ pub at heart. Beer prices must be reasonable and drinkers welcome at the bar.

  • Our food must not be priced for the tourist influx. We are open all year and want our neighbours to feel able to drop in for a quick bite to eat.

  • We are a haven for artists. The walls hang local art and the bar hums with live Bluegrass music on Monday nights.

  • We have always encouraged local suppliers to bring their produce to our kitchen door (see below for Fat Hen foraged produce), and we now have a long list of active small producers.

  • We take very seriously our responsibility for minimising our impact on the wider environment and demand the same of our suppliers.

  • We employ local people and invest in training them, giving them specialist qualifications for use throughout their life.

Food Suppliers

We are a member of the Sustainable Restaurant Association.  Among other commitments we make as part of our membership is to source our ingredients responsibly.

Since we opened in March 2006, we have developed relationships with as many local food producers as we can.  We have enjoyed learning and growing with them.
